CCS’ Psychological Services Department is proud to announce Heather Ayers as the school system’s 2015-2016 School Psychologist of the Year. The announcement came during the Nov. 12 School Psychology Week Reception at ERC. Ayer serves Elizabeth Cashwell Elementary School and the Early-In Preschool Program. She specializes in developing interventions for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and for students who are struggling behaviorally, socially, and academically.

The UNC-Wilmington and Appalachian State University graduate has worked as a school psychologist in CCS since 2001. She also serves as a member of CCS’ Autism Problem Solving Team and Feeding Safety Team. School Psychology Awareness Week was observed November 9 – 13. This year’s theme was “Connect the Dots and THRIVE” with a focus on building connections between students and school communities that enhance their skills, improve their outlook and ‘set them up’ to thrive in everything they aspire.
